We live in such a fallen world from people being sold into the sex industry to those being beheaded for their faith. And with all the wars and rumors of wars you can start to lose hope in the human race. But this is nothing new. Throughout the Old Testament you hear about such things, at times even worse things like sacrificing their own children to worship their pagan gods. I. Can’t. Even. Imagine. Even God’s own people, the Jews, were guilty of such crimes. They would slowly fall away from worshipping their one true God and start to build their own idols to worship.
The Jews would forget what God had done for them. They forgot that God sent 10 plagues to Egypt to try and convince Pharaoh to let His people go, or when He parted the Red Sea so they could escape, or when God blessed Abraham and Sarah with a baby in their old age so that his descendants would become a great nation. This is why it is so important to remember what the Lord has done for you! Write it down, share your stories with your children, and tell them about the miracles from the Bible. Don’t let yourself forget that we serve a BIG God who can do exceedingly above all that we ask!
But sadly God’s chosen people would forget and turn away. Then prophets would appear urging them to repent and turn from their wicked ways or receive the judgment from God. When I was younger reading these passages in the Bible it would scare me. I honestly thought well that doesn’t bode well for us today. He’s going to wipe us ALL out for the sins around us.
But then I am reminded of the remnant. God’s remnant. It was a reference to any Jew that had remained faithful to Him even when everyone around was going mad and had turned from Him.
Are you a remnant? Are you faithful to God? Then you don’t have to be anxious or fearful about the future because God has your back!
Jeremiah 23:3-4, “I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number. I will place shepherds over them who will tend them and they will no longer be afraid or terrified nor will any be missing, declares the Lord.”
Your past mistakes won’t keep you from being a remnant either. Rahab was willing to be used by God. God’s people had been promised Jericho but the enemy was living in this country. The Israelites, God’s people, sent two spies in to gather intel. Rahab was willing to open up her home and hide the two spies. Here’s the kicker of the story…Rahab was a prostitute. However this part of her story doesn’t stop her from being a remnant! When the Israelities came in to Jericho to take their promised land, her and her family were saved. So don’t let your past stop you from being a remnant today!
Not only does God save his remnant but he blesses them too. Zechariah 8:12, “The seed will grow well, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground will produce its crops, and the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all these things as an inheritance to the remnant of this people.”
So instead of living in fear of the scary world we are living in be encouraged that you are a remnant. You are a faithful servant of the Lord and his promise is one of protection and prosperity. Remember what the Lord has done for you and find comfort that He is for you, so who can be against you?
